How to Get Started


1- Choose a Medium


Whether it’s your computer, an app on your phone or good old pen and paper, choose what you’re most comfortable using.

There are no rules. There is no one way a journal should be. It’s a very personal thing. Write whatever you feel like.


3- Maintain a List of Things You Appreciate


Keep it separate so you can re-read it regularly. Also include uplifting quotes you can read through when you need a boost.


4- Try “Stream of Consciousness”


This allows you to articulate your thoughts and feelings without censoring or editing. It helps you come to terms with things you may not have thought of otherwise.

5- Create a Visual Journal


A journal is not necessarily just words. If you don’t like to write, create sketches or drawings.


6- Don’t Lose Faith


Sometimes a writing session can release pent up emotions immediately. Other times it’s just the beginning of getting to know yourself.

When you read back over what you’ve written, you may realize how much you’ve grown. Reading the past can inform the future.
